Frances Awcock AM - Civil Celebrant

Wedding Ceremony - Melbourne Australia

What kind of marriage ceremony do I perform?

The Ceremony I present is the one that best meets your own expectations and needs. My ceremonies vary from the formal to the informal and all are elegant in style and presentation. You and I determine the exact nature of it together. To assist you in the planning, I will make available to you a number of options for the form of the ceremony and its content.  On the other hand, you may choose music, readings and other parts of the ceremony from your own sources.

Are there any legal requirements of marriage celebrants?
Yes, In order to conduct a civil marriage ceremony in Australia  a celebrant must be authorised to officiate by the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Registrar of Marriages. Every such licensee has an official  registration number.

Are there any legal requirements of persons intending to marry?
Yes.  They include production of evidence as to your date and place of birth and your current marital status. They also include one month and one day’s notice which must be lodged with the Celebrant on the special form Notice of Intended Marriage. You may download it from this website. Other formalities are also required so you need to allow plenty of time in your planning. These requirements and others I will discuss with you at our first meeting.

Can marriages take place anywhere in Australia?
Yes, except that civil ceremonies are not usually conducted in a church or on board ships or airplanes.  Practical considerations may preclude some other types of venue.  You may choose indoor or outdoor ceremonies.
